Riz en Folie: One Giant Leap for Montreal

Daydreaming about this rice pudding from Riz en Folie: Bedeviled Chocolate/Remembering d'Antan and Passionfruit/Kokoloko

Call it a leap of faith, going out on a limb, or whatever you like, but you gotta admit, the decision to open a rice pudding bar in Montreal, akin to Rice to Riches in NYC, was a gutsy one. Is our city ready for this? Heck, yeah. For me it's one less reason to make the drive to the big apple. Too bad our pizza isn't up to New York's pie standards; I'd never have to update my passport.

I was going to give you a blow-by-blow of our most enjoyable visit, our lengthy tasting of each flavor, our friendly and educational chit-chat with the owner, our spoon-licking and tummy patting feast, and heck, even our sprawl on the comfortable banquet with two restless children, but that would take way too long for you to read because you don't need to be reading now, you need to be on your way out the door to Riz en Folie. Right. NOW. Go!

This place has way too many cool things going for it to list; you simply must try it out, no matter how skeptical you are. It doesn't need me or anyone to elaborate on how it is the next big thing and blah, blah, blah; it's product speaks for itself.

See you there.

PS. For more photos and an entirely more mature and professional review of Riz en Folie, check out what the fabulous Kim has to say over at Montreal Poutine

P.S.S. For the WHOLE picture including the history of rice pudding, etc, go here.

I was there, and I have to agree that there really isn't more that needs to be said. Go. It's not a Toqué! or other top table where you have to save up for months (unless you're rich, in which case, please consider me if your dining partner cancels at the last second), it's only 4 bucks, and worth every penny.

As much as I love ice cream, and Ben & Jerry's in particular, I will be spending my money here for the next little while when I go into town. The flavours are all tremendously alive in your mouth, and they're not too sweet. A true winner.

I live right outside of on NYC and I find myself in Rice to Riches once or twice a month. As I will be in Montreal in the fall, I will put this on my list of "must do's" Thanks for the tip.

Oh I'm so happy for you - Rice to Riches is one of my favorite dessert places. Whenever we are down that way I always find a way to make a stop there (unless I'm in the mood for gelato, and then it's straight to Grom!). Enjoy!

Yet another place I have to put on the list for when I get to go to Montreal, God knows when! I love their website, so cute! And their re-usable containers, how cool is that? And I love rice pudding so, really, I have to move closer to Montreal ASAP! :)
